Battle of the Bands

Genres include alternative, americana & roots, classic soul, hip hop, jam, rock ska & punk, and girl power.
The battles begin at 5:30pm
- Sunday, May 24, 2015: Americana & Roots – winner will open for Sheepdogs & Yonder Mountain String Band on 7/2.
- Friday, June 5, 2015: Jam – winner will open for Spoon on 6/25.
- Friday, June 12, 2015: Ska & Punk – winner will open for Mighty Mighty Bosstones on 7/9.
- Friday, June 19, 2015: Classic Soul – winner will open for the “Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra does Stevie Wonder on 7/16.
- Friday, June 26, 2015: Rock – winner will open for Badfish on 7/23.
- Friday, July 3, 2015: Alternative – winner will open for Iron & Wine on 7/30.
- Friday, July 10, 2015: Girl Power – winner will open for En Vogue on 8/20.
- Friday, July 17, 2015: Hip Hop – winner will open for En Vogue on 8/20.
We’ll choose four to five of Western New York’s best to compete at each battle, with all participating bands receiving a $100 stipend plus a write up in The Public.
The winners from each battle category will receive a paid gig opening for a national act at one of the free Thursday Concerts at Canalside. Bands will be judged by a panel of local professionals on quality of the performance, stage presence, and audience engagement.
