This Memorial Day weekend, Old Fort Niagara presents Soldiers Through the Ages, a military timeline event featuring recreated warriors from the 9th century to today.
Visitors can explore a WWII training camp, view period vehicles, and stroll through 1,000 years of military history. Living history presenters will showcase period camps, demonstrating how soldiers’ rations and uniforms evolved over time.
Each day at 3:00 p.m., a comparative weapons program will trace battlefield technology from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Guests will experience live firing demonstrations of Matchlock muskets, flintlocks, Civil War rifled muskets, and WWII-era M1 Garand rifles.
Unlike most Fort Niagara programs that focus on a single era, Soldiers Through the Ages offers a rare chance to compare military life across centuries.
As one of North America’s longest-occupied military sites, Fort Niagara has a rich history dating back to 1679. It remained an active post until 1963, logging nearly 300 years of service. Today, the U.S. Coast Guard continues to operate on-site.
