Jan 22nd | 12-1:30pm |The Artist vs the Machine | Pay What You Wish | Recommended for ages 12+ Only 8 spots! Sign-up in advance required. Building on an analysis of the first five Disney features in comparison to the corporate films that followed, we will review the musical sequences from those first five films and discuss the historical background of Walt Disney’s disillusionment with the medium of animation. His contemporaries were duly impressed by his cracking the secret sauce of sound cartoons, so much so that the technique became known as Mickey Mousing. His pursuit of a higher form of cinematic art elevated the cartoon to the status of blockbuster feature film and resulted in the creation of five films that were his alone to claim. The business of moviemaking eventually became a corporate affair and a committee process, especially as his attention moved to Live Action and the Theme Parks.
