What do you know about the wild and weird word of animals? What don’t you know?! Wild n’ Weird will engage guests with amazing information on some of the world’s toughest creatures. Biodiversity, our newest permanent Science Studio, highlights the many unique physical and behavioral adaptations of animals all over the globe. At Wild n’ Weird, we’ll delve deeper in to the strange, extraordinary and bizarre!
From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm., Jeff Musial’s Nickel City Reptiles & Exotics Traveling Zoo will be available for guests to explore. The Jeff Musial Live Animal Show, featuring Jeff’s wildest creatures, will be presented in the M&T Bank National Geographic Cinema at 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm. Admission to the Live Animal show is $4 for Museum members and $5 for non-members. All other activities, including access to Nickel City Reptiles & Exotics Traveling Zoo, are included with Museum admission and free for Members.
In addition to the Nickel City Reptiles & Exotics traveling zoo and the Jeff Musial Live Animal Show, the Museum will host Vertebrate Zoology Tours in our Collections Area. Guests will be able to visit BMS Gets Weird, an interesting assemblage of the Museums oddest of the odd collection items. The WNY Herpetological Society will be bringing in a variety of reptiles and amphibians including Tinker Bell the tortoise, snakes and other herps. Local collector, Bill Schryver, will be showing off his unique personal collection of insects and discussing some of their interesting scientific stories. The SPCA will also be on-site, providing information on their programs, animals and wildlife rehab program and process. Face-painting will be available in addition to special photo opportunities with the Museum’s own Tony the Tiger.
Guests will enjoy a variety of activities throughout the Museum. Test your knowledge of “Wild n’ Weird Animal Trivia” in our new Biodiversity studio. What do you know about the weird world of animals and their strangest adaptations. Guests will “Eat Like a Bird” in our Rethink Extinct Science Studio. Birds don’t have teeth, paws, hands or horns – they have beaks! The shape of their beak is what helps them to survive. Using everyday items, guests will collect “food” using different types of “beaks” and discover what their beak would be adapted to pick up. The Bug Works Science Studio will invite guests to hunt for some of the world’s toughest creatures, tardigrades! These microscopic wonders survive extreme pressures and temperatures and have even survived in outer space... and they can be found right in your backyard. “Our Marvelous Earth” will be a messy space – guests can view models of real animal droppings and make their very own scat to take home.
Admission to the Buffalo Museum of Science is $11.00 for Adults ages 18-61, $9.00 for Seniors ages 62+, $9.00 for Military & Student, $8.00 for Children 2-17, free for Children Under 2 and free for Museum Members.
